Computer simulations play an increasingly important role in the life sciences, supporting experimentalists in their studies of biological systems. To allow independent scientists to reproduce scientific findings based on simulation experiments, concepts for standardised exchange formats and software tools to share models are needed. To this end, the Department of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics organises an international meeting on simulation reproducibility.

Researchers from Germany and the Netherlands will meet from 19th to 22nd November in Rostock to discuss the standard format for simulation encoding in computational biology, SED-ML. The meeting uses the Internet to involve other participants from around the world, the University of Oxford, the Babraham Institute in Cambridge (UK), or the Auckland Institute of Technology (New Zealand). The meeting is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and is organised by Dagmar Waltemath who leads a junior research group in the Dept. of Systems Biology and Bioinformatics. Her project SEMS is funded as part of the BMBF's e:Bio Programme. Dagmar Waltemath is one of the founders of the SED-ML language, and she has since been actively involved in its development as a SED-ML editor. http://sed-ml.org
