EDA data analysis for EMDR therapy purposes

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a widely used psychotherapy, particularly effective for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The therapy facilitates trauma recovery by combining bilateral stimulation with cognitive reappraisal to foster positive associations. Currently, therapists rely heavily on subjective behavioral observations to determine if a patient has transitioned to a more positive emotional state. However, this clinical assessment can sometimes lack objective precision.

This project investigates whether physiological factors can serve as objective biomarkers to detect shifts in emotional valence. In this seminar, I will present a computational pipeline designed to process Electrodermal Activity (EDA) signals and explain how we extract meaningful physiological features. Ultimately, the goal of this work is to evaluate whether these features could provide therapists with a more reliable and objective assessment tool.
