On Tuesday, 30th June 2026, 13:00, Orell Trautmann, PhD student at SBI, will give a presentation on “Welcome to the Zoo: A Guide to the Diverse World of Graphs” as part of our research seminar. Afterwards we look forward to discussions. The seminar is open to anyone interested.
Abstract:
Networks are everywhere in modern biology—from protein-protein interactomes to complex ecological networks. Yet, as systems biology pushes toward more abstract models like multiplex, Boolean, and temporal networks, keeping up with the terminology can be daunting.
Inspired by a trip to the zoo, this seminar will showcase the diverse ecosystem of graph types, explaining how they relate to one another and when to use them. Whether you are working with standard networks or trying to decode publications featuring more "exotic" variants, this talk will provide the foundational clarity needed to inspire your next research project.
