The MTZ® Award for Medical Systems Biology is the national talent award for outstanding dissertations by young scientists in the field of medically oriented systems biology, which is bestowed every two years by the MTZ® Foundation in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Projektträger Jülich (PtJ).

Martin's outstanding dissertation was able to convince the national selection panel and so he won the coveted price together with Fabian Fröhlich (Harvard Medical School) and Carolin Loos (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
