Identification and functional analysis of miRNAs in colorectal cancer: Microsatellite instability (MSI) and Chromosomal instability (CIN) subtypes MiRNAs comprise an abundant class of endogenous, small non-coding RNAs, 18-25 nucleotides in length that hybridize with specific target mRNAs and thereby regulate protein synthesis. Alterations in miRNA expression are a common feature in colorectal cancer. These changes occur in the transition from normal to adenoma and from adenoma to carcinoma, however miRNA changes among subtypes of colorectal cancer have not been well characterized. The aim of this study is to perform a gene expression analysis in two main molecular subtypes of colorectal cancer, MSI and CIN, and to identify and characterize underlying miRNA/mRNA regulatory networks.
